Defending Dead Or Alive

Dead Or Alive.  One of the most controversial series of games around.  Question is, what does it do that's so wrong?  What does it do to deserve the honor of being called one of the worst games of all time by some?  It presents the females as sexy while still being strong.  That's literally it.

Hot females in gaming have always been a thing and (hopefully) always will be.  And for years it's been perfectly fine.  But for whatever reason, when DOA does it, it's suddenly a bad thing?  Why?  Because you can put the females in skimpy clothes?  Again, you'd have to ask the question of why that's a bad thing.  And again, why is it especially egregious when DOA does it?

How bad is it?  So bad that people overlook the great gameplay, dazzling graphics, and decent soundtrack.  What are they, afraid of the female form?

Look out, SJWs!  It's a hot woman!
It's also worth noting that the two most recent entries in the series, DOA 5 and DOA 6, are M-rated for...some reason.  What did those games do to get an M rating?  There's barely any blood and no gore, viscera, vomit, or sex (implied or actual).  Heck, there's really not even any swearing.  So the only reason for the game being rated M is...the outfits?  Is the potential of seeing Tina or Christie's butt that bad?  Sorry, but nothing I can see is worse than a T rating.  And the girls do have more conservative options for those whose eyes are easily offended.

Sadly, this is too much for some people to handle.

Wait.  I didn't know the girls had outfits that cover their bodies, too.
Perhaps, it's the lack of skimpy options for the guys?  That's unlikely, because nobody is complaining about that.  Also, there's plenty of options in these games where the guys are shirtless and even a few where they're wearing nothing but little shorts.  So, the "why aren't the guys wearing skimpy outfits" rationale that is total BS.

See?  There's something in there for thirsty females and gay gamers, too.
Everything can't be defended, though.  The price of the DLC outfits is absurd.  I've got no problem with charging for extra characters who aren't even canon.  I don't even mind paying for certain outfits on occasion.  But if you're a completionist, you can expect to pay $2000 (that's a 2 with three zeroes).  And now they have the nerve to monetize hair, too.  That is simply absurd.  Fortunately, you don't HAVE to buy everything (or anything) to have the total experience.

Also, some of the character designs are...odd.  Not bad.  Just odd.

Some characters are hard to defend.  The outfit is nice, though.
In that same vein, you have the "incels only want to jerk off to it" train of thought.  So what if they do?  They're incels.  They can't get girlfriends or even get laid.  What is that guy supposed to do?  Be bitter that he can't get a woman and go on a shooting spree?  If a guy gets off work and returns home to no girlfriend, what wrong with him firing up the ol' console and getting off to Ayane and Kasumi fighting in school uniforms?  Who actually gets hurt if incels jerk off to it?

Darned incels!  How dare you have the ability to get off like everyone else?  Monsters!
In the end, you have to ask what the REAL problem with the DOA series is.  The answer is nothing.  DLC is an issue, but it doesn't break the game like other games (cough, Street Fighter 5, cough).  The design of some characters (Marie Rose) is questionable, but can be overcome.  The only problem I can think of is that the people criticizing it are scared of scantily-clad women for some reason.  But I'm a fair man.  Feel free to leave a comment stating any legitimate issues with the series.

Until next time, stay nerdy.
